Analysis of EHR Adoption Data and Meaningful Use Attestation

Brian Ahier, Health IT Evangelist for Information Systems at Mid-Columbia Medical Center and contributor for Government Health IT, has put together a great article: Analysis of EHR Adoption Data and Meaningful Use Attestation.

In this article, Mr. Ahier has complied specific data for inpatient and ambulatory attestations. This information provides a very clear state of the CMS Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Program and progress being made in EHR adoption among eligible providers. It is important to note while this is a very good analysis that is not easily available or found, the sample size does not include all attestation data for the 2011 reporting period.

The Meaningful Use attestation analysis in the article also highlights the top ten EHR software companies for both the inpatient and ambulatory sectors.  While the data in this analysis is accurate, it does not necessary mean that the vendors listed are actually the top 10 EHR’s in the marketplace.  With so many ONC-ATCB certified EHR systems to choose from, it is important for eligible providers and medical practices to select the EHR platform that will integrate the best into their current workflows and provide them with the capability and reporting that they truly want and need for themselves and their patients.

The article also contains an excellent presentation that was made on January 10, 2012 to the HIT Policy Committee by Robert Tagalicod, Robert Anthony, and Jessica Kahn from CMS on their analysis of the data (including the element not available on data.gov – the money paid out in incentive payments).
